Started by washingtonindependent · 8 months ago

As I wrote earlier, Harry Reid (D-Nevada), the Senate majority leader, met with Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) today about whether Lieberman would stay in the Democratic caucus and, if so, whether he would  keep his chairmanship of the Senate oversight committee.

  • Reid has no other option. Lieberman worked tirelessly for McCain. It was shameful.
  • too bad for Lieberman, they needed him to hang on to the senate majority, now they don't need him any more. what does that say about politics? oh well, he did it onto himself anyway.
  • I think the Dems should keep Leiberman in their Caucus but stripped him of his chairmanship. This shows a "big tent", bipartisan approach but having a big tent does not imply leadership role should be handed over to those who did not support the party. Should he choose to join the Republican caucus instead for getting some senior status, it will show that he puts himself first while claiming he puts the nation's interest first - having exactly the same nonsense meaning as McCain's "country first" slogan.
  • The news of yesterday's meeting between Senator Joseph Lieberman and Senator Harry Reid has gotten me worried, to say the least. As a supporter of Senator Lieberman I am offended by the threats from Senator Harry Reid and many of his Democratic colleagues to strip Senator Lieberman of his Chairmanships simply because he chose his friendship with John McCain over party politics. In repose to these threats, I have set up the a blog, Let Joe Stay (http://letjoestay.blogspot.com/) with the hope of mobilizing like minded people to contact their Senators as well as Senator Reid and inform them not to put their pettiness ahead of what’s right. Senator Lieberman is the best man for these Chairmanships and to remove him would be foolish. If this is truly the time for hope and change, then Sen. Reid should forgive and forget and allow Joseph Lieberman to keep his Chairmanship. Let Joe Stay!.
