Camille Paglia is in deep denial. The evidence is clear -- and mounting -- that the "birthers" are indeed motivated by bigotry, not just racial animus against the nation's first black president, but also by a misplaced Islamophobic bias, based on the false belief that the president is a Muslim.

That the "birthers" continue to wage their jihad against the president in spite of all their claims against him being thoroughly debunked -- still insisting that Obama was born in Kenya when, in fact, his mother never set foot anywhere on the African continent (and they cannot prove otherwise) -- should by now tell all but the most dim-witted that these people simply cannot countenance a black man being president of the United States.

Then there are poll after poll after poll revealing that the "birthers" are almost exclusively white, predominantly male and most heavily concentrated in the South. That they are also overwhelmingly Republican is beside the point.

I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that the election and inauguration was "non-historic". The first time we do something different, i.e. electing a black man, it is historic. Just because you don't like his politics doesn't mean it is any less historic.

I think the president has done a great deal in his short time in office but I am not blind to the things that haven't changed. I also think there are plenty of things we don't know that compels a president to act/do in a certain manner. I wish the president would quit trying to be bipartisan because the right will never work with his administration in an open and honest manner because they don't give a flying flip about the people that are suffering in this country- they have proven that over and over.

I do not and have never "sanctified" the president but I know he isn't an "incompetent conservative" and he inherited two wars that he must deal with. I don't have to like war to know that we can't just cut and run just because we have a new president in office. I think he has a very difficult road and I believe none of us really know what a person faces when they are elected to the office of the President of the United States. I have watched quite a few presidents go through the office in my years on this earth and I have watched them all age before their time with the weight of the office.

Have you stopped to consider what could be being accomplished if the republicans would work with the democrats and the administration instead of just saying no?

Of course, this article was about was about the "birthers"- who won't be satisfied no matter what evidence is presented about the presidents birth. For them I said he is the duly elected president- elected by the people. They need to shut up and go away. We are tired of hearing from tin foil hat people.

Obama does have a way out of this. It's called, "ignore the nutjobs." Seems to be working just fine. Let his lawyers do their jobs while he's busy running the country. That's as it should be.

Birthers are irrelevant. Not even gadflies because gadflies are at least able to get your attention. Obama isn't even giving birthers that much.

That's one of the stupidest things you've said yet. People who respond that way to getting sued, or being charged with something, lose the case, whether they are guilty or not. 100%. Sometimes they even lose the case even if they do hire a lawyer, whether they are guilty or not. It happens all the time.

Yeah well, yes... except you're completely full of crap.

No one gets their "original." No state gives out the original; the best you get is a certified copy, which is exactly what Obama has shown. It's prima facie evidence in any court in the country, just exactly like a certified long form copy. It's the only kind of BC HI gives since the 80's, and they're not the only state that exclusively gives short forms. It's perfectly good enough to join the military with.

And if you were getting sued over these lies and BS you'd "send lawyers" too. That's what people do when they're being sued. That's how it works.

When I joined the United States Army I had to show my original long form birth certificate.
When I became a police officer I had to show my original long form birth certificate.
I didn't point Army officials to some website with a jpeg image of what "appears" to be a certification of live birth document. Which by the way, is NOT valid evidence in any court of law that I know of.
Additionally, I didn't hire Perkins Coie to fight release of said long form and I didn't send DOJ lawyers to do the same thing.
If every soldier has to provide the original bc then the Commander in Chief should follow the same rules. that is unless he has something to hide.
Obama is hiding something.

As I mentioned previously I was very proud of my country for nominating a guy who is almost half-black over Hellary but then I found out about his birthplace/citizenship issues. That Constitutional requirement means more to me than any economic or healthcare issues.

The FBI uses applicable federal laws, including Hobbs Act to investigate violations by public officials in federal, state and local governments. The 39th VP Spiro Agnew (Nixon's VP) was forced to resign on charges of extortion, tax fraud, conspiracy, but was allowed to plead no contest to a single count; and the pending case of Governor of Illinois Rod Blogovich. and also a sitting congressman.

All this was based on "ThE NEED TO KNOW," security protocol.
Also research National Security Directives, Executive Orders,and FBI web site in relation to security investigations and procedures.
Today there is tremendous awareness and strategic plans to defeat threats posed by foreign terrorists, domestic hate and fringe groups and therefore a strict conformance to all security laws and protocols are in effect. After reading all of the above, if you believe that the US still has such loose security allowing top politicians free or easy access to sensitive security information, then I have the Brooklyn Bridge to sell you.

Here's the problem with movements like the birther movement. The movement itself is coated with teflon. Any type of logic or law that gets between their beliefs and theories or doesn't fit with their specific ideology is sloughed off. It's a very non-stick ideology.
If ever we have a democratic female president I'm sure we will hear them again spouting about how the US Constitution says specifically refers to the president as "He". Fact is, it does refer to the president as "He". Does this mean that we cannot have a female president without changing the Constitution? Of course it doesn't. But we'll see where the birthers lie on this one when the time comes.
