Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, succeeding State Senator Alice Palmer as Senator from Illinois's 13th District, which at that time spanned Chicago South Side neighborhoods from Hyde Park – Kenwood south to South Shore and west to Chicago Lawn. Once elected, Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws. He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare. In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures.

Obama was reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998, defeating Republican Yesse Yehudah in the general election, and was reelected again in 2002 In 2000, he lost a Democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representatives to four-term incumbent Bobby Rush by a margin of two to one.[

In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee when Democrats, after a decade in the minority, regained a majority. He sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained, and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations. During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms. Obama resigned from the Illinois Senate in November 2004 following his election to the U.S. Senate.

We already know that lending is not a crime, and we all know that today generation we can not avoid to can not engage into a loan.
The bells are ringing; the Philadelphia Phillies have won the World Series 2008. It has been 28 years since their last victory when Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose and Steve Carlton showed the American League the meaning of spirited, winning baseball. Twenty-four-year-old Cole Hamels was named the World Series MVP in only his 3rd season in the Major Leagues. Victory roared across Philadelphia as emotions ran high while the city prepared the celebration of the boys bringing home the Commissioner’s Trophy. However, supporters of the community are also preparing for something else; mass rioting. Temple University recently sent out an email to its students detailing the many ways they will be arrested while they celebrate the Phillies World Championship. In the email they stated, “Students involved in vandalism, refusal to disperse, destruction of property, etc. will face both criminal and University disciplinary action. Sanctions may range from fines up to and including immediate suspension. Surveillance – including videotaping – is heightened during the Series on campus and throughout the city.”
Is there really a need for police state crackdown? People should be more respectful; it’s the adult thing to do. However, if someone less respectful of property as you leaves you with a smashed windshield and you need help to take care of it before you’re paid again, affordable personal loans are available. Through the globalization in the third world generation there are a lot of the competitive in many aspect and especially in the field of economics.

Is all this really necessary? Are they so bored in Philadelphia for something to do that they’re willing to repeat Tiananmen Square to make sure everything stays Leave It to Beaver swell?

The great French political philosopher, Alexis de Tocqueville, once said, “The surface of American society is covered with a layer of democratic paint, but from time to time one can see the old aristocratic colors breaking through.” That quote was uttered several decades ago, but it definitely seems as if, during this election cycle, it’s been ringing true nationwide. In this case, we have elected officials and hopefuls who, for some reason or another, at least claim to believe that cash advances are detrimental to the American people. With this in mind, some of them have gone so far as to propose measures that would knock the entire industry out of certain states, or even America! Governor Ted Strickland, of Ohio, is one of these people, whose new law, if passed, would knock the industry out and send 6,000 of his people to the unemployment line. What’s worse, both current Presidential hopefuls, Barack Obama and John McCain supported a bill that ultimately banned payday loans to military personnel. Furthermore, Obama has come out in support of measures that would make it impossible for these short term lenders to continue operating. An aristocracy is one where one ruling class makes decisions on behalf of everyone else. Let’s just hope that those old aristocratic colors don’t bleed through when deciding the fate of payday loans.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2008, Americans tuned in to the third and final U.S. Presidential Debate in Hempstead, New York. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois went into the debate with an eight-point lead, based on CNN’s compilation of national poll averages. It looked as though Obama was satisfied to sit on his lead, but Arizona Senator John McCain took full advantage of Obama’s contentment. McCain tested the strength and validity of Obama’s policies, judgment and qualities of character. Obama countered the challenge by pointing out the failures of the economic policies enacted by the Bush Administration over the past eight years. McCain argued that he is “not President Bush.” McCain stated that, if elected, he would sanction an “across the board spending freeze.” Obama’s position sounded more conservative because he intends to “go through the federal budget page by page, line by line” to allocate taxpayers’ money to the appropriate programs and to cut the programs that aren’t working as they should. Both presidential hopefuls think their economic plans will bring America the change it needs. However, their policies could eliminate consumer access to payday loans. With our economy falling behind, the war on terror, pork barreling legislation, corruption, and criminal activity on the rise, payday loans should be the last thing on politicians’ minds. Yet, for some reason, high profile politicians like Obama are focusing on this issue. Some states have banned them, such as Georgia and North Carolina, and more are in the process. Instead of fixing the important issues, they are trying to take out the payday loan industry for personal and political gain. Payday Loans are simply for short term financial assistance for the all-American family to cover some cost that wasn’t budgeted or an emergency that they couldn’t pay for at that moment. They provide help to citizens during these financially troubling times with loans that the government otherwise couldn’t provide themselves. Stop the potential loss of thousands of jobs and the loss of a viable financial option by voicing your opinion to the legislature, before a nationwide ban becomes in effect.

It's not about hunting. It is about every Americans right to protect themselves. If Obama is elected then he will have the posibility to add three liberal (anti-gun) supreme court justices.

Every person has the right protect themsleves from criminals. If you or you wife and children are attacked in you home and If you chose to not protect yourself and wait for the second responders (police) then that is your choice. I on the other hand choose to realize that in the critical 5 to 9 min it takes for the police to arrive that I am the first responder. Why is it that many Americans seem to think the only one capable to protect us need to have a uniform on?

Why are Obama's lies forgiven as "misstatements", but factual evidence from the (R) side of the argument reported as lies? Obama has a long and glorious history of supporting every gun control measure that ever hit his desk.

George Santayana had a great quote about those who forget history being doomed to repeat it. Maybe you should read that line more than the latest "Hope Change Future" pablum from Obama. But that might not be as "comical" if you actually had to face reality.

Obama's past record on gun control contradicts his stated beliefs during this campaign. Yet, hardly anyone in the media is questioning this, why? What are they afraid of since most of the media support gun control, including outright unconstitutional bans, as has Obama.

If Obama supports the second amendment, then why has he not co-singed onto a bill in the Senate that would remove the unconstitutional restrictions on lawful firearms ownership that are still being enforced in Washington D.C.?

For the sake of completeness and fairness I went to the Annenberg site you referenced and read the article. Then I went and checked as many of the cited references as I could find. In my opinion, Obama's language is his usual "nuanced" dancing around the issues without ever saying anything he could be pinned down on. The NRA's collection of his record is verifiable facts. The Annenberg site says the NRA lied because Obama's campaign said so. And you accepted Annenberg and Obama's version as the truth.

Please step away from the Koolaid, Sir. It's for your own good.

These high-capacity rifles, the ATF wrote, pose an enhanced threat to law enforcement, in part because of their ability to expel particles at velocities that are capable of penetrating the type of soft body armor typically worn by law enforcement officers.

Another rifle caliber, the 30.30 caliber, was responsible for penetrating three officers' armor and killing them in 1993, 1996, and 2002. This ammunition is also capable of puncturing light-armored vehicles, ballistic or armored glass, armored limousines, even a 600-pound safe with 600 pounds of safe armor plating.

It is outrageous and unconscionable that such ammunition continues to be sold in the United States of America. Armor-piercing ammunition for rifles and assault weapons is virtually unregulated in the United States. A Federal license is not required to sell such ammunition unless firearms are sold as well. Ted Kennedy proposed a ban on .223, 7.62, and 30-30 - all of these are popular and common hunting rounds. Obama supported and voted for this. (H.R. 1784: PLEA Act)

Obama thinks the DC gun ban is constitutional. (James Oliphant and Michael J. Higgins, "Court to hear gun case," Chicago Tribune, November 20, 2007.)

Obama supported banning concealed carry nationwide. (Obama says, "National legislation will prevent other states' flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents." Obama doesn't support people's right to self defence in areas that ban handguns (Illinois State Senate, vote on SB 2165 (41-16), May 25, 2004)

Obama wants to ban one of the most popular rifles in the US: the AR-15. He wants to renew the "assault" weapon ban and prefer to make it permanent. (John Chase, "Keyes, Obama are far apart on guns; Views on assault weapons at odds," Chicago Tribune, September 15, 2004. )

Obama hates gun owners - he thinks they are bitter and cling to their guns (and religion) for comfort. Of course, he will only say this behind closed doors at a fund raiser in California. Go figure...

FactCheck.org is generally pretty good, but they really fell down on the job on this article. If they have any honesty, they will go back and rewrite their article significantly.

Just last year, FactCheck's primary funding source, the Annenberg Foundation, also gave $50,000 to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence for "efforts to reduce gun violence by educating the public and by enacting and enforcing regulations governing the gun industry." Annenberg made a similar grant for $100,000 in 2005.

Here's the quote from Sen. Kennedy on his 'armor piercing ammo" ban that Obama co-sponsored:

I would draw a parallel between political campaigns, both current presidential ones included, and the classical shell game in a carnival side show. The carnie's contatant patter is supposed do distract your attention from what he/she is doing or has done in the past. What Obama says in no way overshadows what he is on the record as having actually done. His campaign says one thing, his record as an Illinois state senator and as a first term U. S. Senator says something completely different. Every one of the 10 points in the NRA add has been denied by his campaign, but all of them are drawn from actual votes or positions taken by Obama in the past.

Obama says he supports our recently re-affirmed civil right to "keep and bear arms". But he believes that local governments can abridge that right depending on local governmental needs. I wonder how he would feel if local governments in the south felt the need to abridge minority voting rights by bringing back the poll taxes and voter literacy tests of the Jim Crow era?

The constitution as currently ammended says that my rights are my rights regardless of where I live under U. S. jurisdiction. Washington, D. C., Chicago, IL., San Francisco, CA., and New York, NY., cannot legally prohibit handgun ownership any more than the former Confederate States can bring back slavery. As a "constitutional law scholar", Obama know this to be true. But what he says can be listened to only so long as we keep a sharp eye on what he has done in the past and will do again in the future.
