The Washington Independent: Investigative Reporter Byron York Exposes Black Support for Democratic President

  • wgt · 7 months ago
Well, Mr. York, Blacks do count. But, if you think Obama could have been elected in this country without the support of white America, you have lost your mind. If every Black person voted for Obama, he would not have been elected if whites had not also voted for him. Hello, 12% of the population does not have the ability to override the other 88%. Inflenentual, yes, the deciding factor, no.
  • larry · 7 months ago
someone needs to tell York the percentage of African Americans is this country. I can write stupid articles too York. What a dumbass.
  • mister hand · 7 months ago
Wow. Just ONE PERCENT of African Americans went with Liddy Dole. Stunning.
  • henry · 7 months ago
Too bad the NROs don't have the balls to say what they really mean. At least the honesty would be refreshing, for a change.

Unless you live in an embryocentric personal universe, is there any reason to read NRO any more?
  • frankdawg · 7 months ago
But wait . . . how do 'real' American's fell about this? You know, real, as in people who look and act like me; not those other kinds that don't count. Why the hell do we even allow the to vote? I mean isn't 3/5s of a vote good enough for the?

Damn I'm sick of all this racial divide crap. Its much more complicated then I'm the same shade of taupe as that one or I have the same external sexual apperatus as that one.
  • noname · 7 months ago
Clearly black people are smarter than white people.
  • Geoffrey Anthony · 7 months ago
It's ironic that the Republicans don't have a black vote to count.
  • dan · 7 months ago
Maybe African-Americans have the opinions they have because Democrats don't believe that the way to find out what Americans "actually" think is to take what Americans think and then subtract the views of African-Americans. Maybe?
  • CN · 7 months ago
You know you forget. A vote is a vote. If you look at GOP support then maybe you and you party leaders should go out and get your white sheets and pillow cases. Your party is the minority and you have this is a democracy.
  • jack · 7 months ago
Obama is popular because he is everything that Bush isn't.
  • nyc · 7 months ago
    Smart Blacks Are Democrats!
  • Jim · 7 months ago
And Bush's ratings would REALLY be in the toilet if it weren't for the rednecks.
  • Suzanne · 7 months ago
So if Hillary had won, presumably they would be claiming that "she's not so popular if you don't count women's votes?"
  • Tom · 7 months ago
Mr. York, I m a white, life-long GOP voter and GOP election judge from DuPage county Illinois. This county is a strong GOP, mostly white community that voted for Obama and still feels very good about our votes. Mr. York needs to understand that this President is not a black or white President. He is the President of all Americans.
  • wheresthebeef · 7 months ago
Good for you. And while I suppose that it's too much to hope for that you'll switch your party affiliation to "Democrat," I honestly hope that you and your Obama-voting Republican friends fight to take control of your party back from the gang that's hijacked it.
  • tosh · 7 months ago
By York's twisted logic, any of Racist White Folk who might have been included in the Poll make some of Obama's positions appear a bit less popular overall than they actually are. ;)

    John
  • JON · 7 months ago
THIS FOOL HAS NO OTHER ARGUMENT THAN TO TRY TO MARGINALIZE AN ENTIRE RACE OF AMERICANS. PATHETIC. SO NOW ONLY THE WHITE OPINION COUNTS IN THEIR "REAL AMERICA."
THANK GOD EVERYBODY'S VOTE COUNTS DURING ELECTIONS.
  • superking · 7 months ago
The worst part about that is this:

"[Obama's] sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are."

What he's saying is that approval ratings by African Americans shouldn't "really" count, because, you see, his positions aren't "actually" that popular. He's clearly suggesting that black people don't count and their opinions are not equal to those of white people.

    This is fucking stupid.
  • Biff Thiele · 7 months ago
Mr. York, an interesting reflection on your post from another white supporter of Obama:
If we don't count the people who are clueless, the GOP would not exist.
  • mark · 7 months ago
is this an argument for the 3/5 of a person rule?
  • Melvin · 7 months ago
Thisis one dumb article.. I usually don't complain, but when I last check black people in this country are Americans too. So because a majority of black like
President Obama this is suppose to be bad. that is why the Republican party will fade away, because of their ideology. It pretty mess up. So according to this
    article Black people don't count.
  • woeisme · 7 months ago
Redeploying the twisted logic of this nut job, how would George W Bush have fared if we discounted the white vote?
  • AndreaD · 7 months ago
Well Byron, THE GOP WOULDN'T BE POPULAR WITHOUT THE WHITE SOUTHERN RACIST VOTE, THERE YOU FRINGE TROLL!
  • Terry K. · 7 months ago
Byron York isn't with NRO anymore -- he moved to the Washington Examiner in February. It's not much of a change, since the Examiner has nearly as many right-wingers as NRO does. More here.
  • lede3957 · 7 months ago
Gosh darn those Black folks. If it were not for them, we would have voted in another White President who would have been president for "REAL AMERICA".
  • ob08 · 7 months ago
There are more whites than there are African Americans in the U.S. population. According to Wikipedia Whites make up 68% and African Americans make up on 12% of the US population.
  • Tom Maguire · 7 months ago
"That’s not a criticism you often hear of, say, white evangelical voters vis-a-vis Republicans."

Interesting point for which some illustrative date would be helpful.

if we actually had data, I would wonder whether evangelicals supported a Republican even on issues that lack any clear religious connection.

I would also note that we hear about Republicans being in the pocket of and pandering to the Religious Right about every ten minutes. How often do we hear of Obama and the Democrats pandering to blacks?

If Republicans *are* pandering, the evangelical support makes sense, yes?
  • Lawnguylander · 7 months ago
This is utterly dense. How often do we hear about the popularity of Republican policies being overstated because they are supported by white Evangelicals? We never hear that and if we did we'd hear an outcry from them as a result. We only hear that kind of nonsense about black people and we only hear about it from people like Byron York. We only hear Byron York being defended by people like you. Why do you feel the need to create a false argument in defense of a blatantly racist piece of commentary?
  • Lisa · 7 months ago
I guess African Americans aren't supposed to have a voice
  • whiskey · 7 months ago
You mean the 15th Amendment, not the 14th, fyi
  • BD · 7 months ago
So why do only 20% of the country identify themselves as Republicans? Why do the Republicans have such a low approval rating? I'm thinking the trend will generally follow the IQ bell curve, most people fall somewhere in the fat part, and will listen when someone speaks commen sense... that stubborn 20% will tend to fall on the low side of the curve, they're greedy, racist or all three!
  • BD · 7 months ago
If you believe that outliers are skewing a poll then you have to remove them from both sides... i.e. if you discount the high approval rating among African Americans then you have to discount the high disaproval ratings among white inbred southern racists!
  • Trai · 7 months ago
I guess such black support is wrong, right? Because you may want to do a research that is neutral based such as doing one on a national figure that is white such as Sarah Palin and then tell us how many whites vs whites suports her as an entity. Gosh how do you hope to expand the Republicabn party with this kinds of racially biased information. Some of us blacks are not so thrilled by the Democratic Party as you indicated. it just that the otherside is not even pretending to care anymore
  • Doc · 7 months ago
    dum ass!
  • JT · 7 months ago
What an idiot York is. If we don't count blacks...........who else would Mr. York like not to count? How about we don't count stupid white rednecks? What would that mean?
  • dan · 7 months ago
I'm no statistician but I'm guessing 99% of the 21%ers who claim to be Republicans these days are 100% ignorant racists......
  • ph · 7 months ago
    Now that! was funny
  • librul · 7 months ago
    Oh, those silly black people!
  • OpinionatedOne · 7 months ago
Byron York is doing nothing more than many others of his kind who have been trying to discount and marginalize Black Americans for years. He is quite likely to be the kind who says, " I wish they'd all go back to Africa . . . " Well, rest assured, we are not going ANYWHERE. So calculate, reconfigure, and manipulate the demographics and statistics until your heart is content. We are here to stay!

And as for that dubious headline -- 'INVESTIGATIVE Reporter Byron York EXPOSES Black Support For Democratic President' --there is no need to ' investigate' and 'expose' a damn thing. . . I am more than proud to SHOUT to the rooftops I voted for President Obama in the 2008 election and am as ECSTATIC today as I was then!!
  • Forceton Banfodder · 7 months ago
Apparently York is among the branch of conservatives that thinks minority voices shouldn't be heard. God forbid the black community or the rest of us for that matter are sick of listening to racist old white men tell us how to act proper while they run our country into the ground for a profit.
  • librul · 7 months ago
I think we should check the birth certificates of everyone of those Negroes polled. I betcha they were all born in Kenya. You just can't be too careful.
  • Chris Lindsay · 7 months ago
    HA! Nice one!
  • Darnell · 7 months ago
    Hey, here's an idea?
What happens to the polls if we just count 2/3 of blacks?

Afterall, that's what the constitution does (or did).

Racism is an ugly ugly thing Mr. York.
  • Alan · 7 months ago
Hey Darnell you're close, but it is was actually the three-fifths compromise.
  • joe blow · 7 months ago
of course it did not count 3/5th of blacks as one person, but 3/5ths of slaves. free blacks were 100% people. not all black americans were slaves.
  • jarrett · 7 months ago
Obama's popularity with those that like him is skewing the polls. If we took the people who like Obama out of the polls we'd see the truth, no one likes him or his policies.
  • EdW · 7 months ago
    Boy, are you stupid!!
  • Deb · 7 months ago
    r u serious?
  • jarrett · 7 months ago
Wow, I can't believe anyone took this seriously. This is the same argument that York is making, well that and that black people don't really count.
  • anonevent · 7 months ago
Read the comment again: if you exclude all people who like Obama, then no one remaining would like Obama. He was being sarcastic.
  • rin · 7 months ago
this is exaclty why there is no republican party with this type of B.S. you guys will never get the picture! just plain dumb! you repubracist are loser and btw im white!
  • EdW · 7 months ago
It is all the fault of those dumb @ss founding fathers.

If they didn't bring slaves to the USA, then we would not have a BLACK President today.

Plus, all those dumb white people voted for the black guy.

He is not even an American because he is black.

And those ~12% African Americans should have never been given the right to vote.

Hey, why stop there. Let's pull back the right to vote from ALL women and non-white men!

Since they can't vote, they should not be able to run for office or work at a good job.

Don't stop there. Let's disallow all women and non-whites from getting educated.

Now that's what this racist really wanted to say.
  • Chris Lindsay · 7 months ago
Yeeeesh! The tough love approach? Geez, you made the reality of this situation almost seem as bad as it actually is. Good on you, mate!
  • dennis · 7 months ago
the republican party is composed of a lot of people and i did not say all i said some which seem to be the majority<after watching the tea bag partys, listening to bloggers and reading this column. they as a party have held the black race back stolen and pilfered from minoritys since the partys inception and rehtoric heard from them and you have done nothing but make my resolve notch up higher against, the sticking policys of this ancient, unrealistic party written by a black man who is independant, but leans strongly towards the democractic pholosophy.
  • Pug · 7 months ago
[Obama's] sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are..

'Cause, you know, those people shouldn't count.

What, Byron? Than they actually are with, you know, white people?
  • Cheryl · 7 months ago
I voted for President Obama because he was the best man for the job. I like many other African Americans were split between Obama & Hillary who is white...until she decided to use the race card...which offended most AA to the point that I wonder if she has lost that base. Once the primaries were over, and McCain selected Palin and after the Republican's convention that was so full of hate AND there was sista Palin, the "Pit Bull w/lipstick" and the hateful speech that she gave, all while her little family wreaked of dysfunction. To have voted any other way would have insulted the intelligence of the average voter as far as I am concerned. Not to mention that Obama gave African Americans hope, something that generations to come can build on and believe in.
  • linda rubenstein · 7 months ago
Who cares what the color of American voters is? What kind of irrelevant criterion of value is color? Shame on the author of this article. Get over your biases. You are a dinosaur. And yes, I am a white supporter of Obama. What's your point??
  • Michilines · 7 months ago
Linda, the author of this article is pointing out how another author is making a big deal about the ethnicity of the peoploe polled.

Do keep up and follow links.
  • Gil · 7 months ago
This is insane. I'm almost at a loss for words to describe how angry I am at the hateful rhetoric spewed by this hack-
  • VagabondSaint · 7 months ago
In York's world, was each black opinion counted as 3/5ths the value of a white opinion? I'm just curious.
  • cinesimon · 7 months ago
WOW - the comments below the original article are incredibly scary - and downright insane.
The people that have commented seem to not only 100% accept the idea, but ignore the Biden numbers and forget so much of why black, Hispanic and Asian Americans vote Democratic.
They seem to think racism is over for the white folk, and 80% of 'colored' folk are racist due to their support of Obama - whats more, this apparently means that the mid terms will be a landslide for republican nominees, because Obama won't be on the ballot.
    How sad these folk are.
The racism and extremist insanity is unlimited to the point where if I had continued to read the comments on that page, I may well have thrown up.
I find it so hard to believe that there are that many people so ignorant, so desperate to project their own self hatred on to others in order that they not have to try to look into the mirror, and/or seriously ask themselves if there may be anything wrong with their own ideas and prejudices given their unpopularity with the vast majority of America.

They really don't realize that not only is Obama extremely popular, but they and their old ideas are extremely UNpopular.

It's just sickening to see in black and white how sad, bigoted and angry the right wing have become.
And a real shame for America - we need a serious opposition party, yet the only serious, intelligent and respectable opposition of any merit is coming from within the Democratic Party itself.

Do republicans even care about Democracy, tolerance, or even basic things like reading, and finding out other people's points of view?
I just find it so hard to believe that they are that self righteous, that ignorant and that bigoted. Yet they continue to prove it to us day and day out.

Their behavior is becoming more and more depraved - and less and less American.
  • CallIt4WhatItIs · 7 months ago
...I wonder what President Bush's approval ratings would've been without the evangelicals, or white southerners, or Republicans. All those evangelicals made Bush's positions more popular than they actually were.
..I think there's a word for someone who makes this distinction only when it comes to black people, but not white people.
  • Mr. Wonderful · 7 months ago
"[Obama's] sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are."

Isn't this the money quote? What *isn't* racist about that use of "actually"?

Shorter York: Black people aren't actually people, you see. Thus, Obama's "popularity" is not what it seems.

(I see everyone else here is noting this. Serves me right. I should read the extant comments first. Still...)

I think York does not understand Black Politics. It is not ruled by the Democrats or the Republicans but the emotions of the Blacks who feel 'Treated Well" or "Treated Unfair." I've just released my book May 2009 breaking down the truth about White Supremacy in the Voting Industry towards Blacks and Politicians Fights to keep them at the Bottom here is the link to my book:

Byron York must realize that the black population is just 13% of the entire population of the United States. So if Obama is adored by blacks, what is the other 87% of the United States doing that makes Obama so likable? I think that a melting pot of Americans is giving Obama his popularity.

    Newt Gingrich, from Wiki:

    Personal life

"Gingrich has been married three times. He married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old (she was seven years his senior at 26 years old).[8][9] They had two daughters and divorced in 1981. She claims he "discussed divorce terms with her while she was recuperating in the hospital from cancer surgery",[10] a fact that was used against him in 1992 by his Democratic opponent Tony Center.

In 1981, six months after his divorce was final, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther.[11] He remained married to Ginther until 2000, when they divorced. Shortly thereafter, Gingrich married Callista Bisek, with whom he later admitted to having had an affair during his second marriage,[12] at approximately the same time he was leading the Congressional investigation of Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Gingrich admitted to providing inaccurate statements during the probe over the college course and agreed to pay US$300,000 for the cost of the investigation, despite denying the charges over misuse of tax-exempt funds. [30][31] The House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules."

I really hope that, that SLEAZEBALL runs in 2012.
