  • What all of the media has missed is that Alaska has never not been crooked in its entire history as an American colony. There have always been colorful con men here, like Soapy Smith, and crazies like Joe Vogler. For those people who think Montana and North Dakota are too civilized, there is always Alaska to run to. Too many Swedish immigrants with socialist leanings for even the New Deal? Dump them in Alaska. Free money lying on the ground to be picked up? That is in Alaska, many times over. Usually the federal government then has to relieve the dummies and suckers who got conned into coming up.
